My work explores the relationship between the abject and folklore archetypes; by contrasting time and material-based mediums with storybook symbolism, I look to confront the viewer to process the present through the whimsical veneer of the past.

I question why we hold onto the folklore symbolism that has been present in fairytales for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.

I am influenced by Jacques Lacan, who saw fantasy as a necessary way for human beings to process our reality, fears, and desires. Through this process, the blackest abyss of space becomes beautiful, the deepest ocean depth becomes righteous, and the most despairing witch is romanticized.
